Doula Services
As a Doula, I Do Not:
2 Prenantal Visits
Each visit will be about an hour and a half, during which time we will discuss your ideal birth experience, concerns about pregnancy and birth, and what to expect when it's time for labor.
Email & Phone Support
Unlimited email support for questions or concerns. Kindly allow 24 hours for a reply to allow for times when I am providing support to a woman in labor.
During labor
Call me when you think that you are in labor. We can discuss your progress over the phone. When you are ready for more support, I will come and stay with you the whole time during labor and delivery using techniques that make labor easier.
Support
After birth I will stay for approximately 1 hour to help with getting settled.
Community Referrals
For services other than what I provide as a birth doula, I will provide a list of highly experienced references, i.e. breastfeeding support, midwife care, placenta encapsulation.
Perform any clinical tasks
Doulas are different from midwives and doctors in that we do not provide medical care. We fill in the gaps left by the doctors and midwives and are usually the only ones present during labor, before it's time to push.
Make decisions for you
I will listen to your questions and concerns, then provide unbiased answers you can use to make decisions you feel are best for your health and the health of baby.
Speak to the staff on your behalf
Based on your ideal birth experience during labor I will remind you of your prefences. There is confidence in speaking up for yourself to the hospital staff.
Project any of my own beliefs onto your experience
This is YOUR birth experience, not mine. The choices you and your partner make will be respected.
Postpartum follow-up visit
A postpartum visit during the first or second week after birth will allow for review of your birth experience and provide opportunity to give feedback from you on my role.
What is a birth coach/doula?
A doula (doo-la) is a woman trained and experienced in providing informational, emotional, and physical support to a woman during pregnancy and birth.
